Discussion of the week!

An exciting part of 5th grade is the ability to learn a new instrument and participate in band.  I know you are anticipating your time with Mr. Schraub; it is very fun getting to try all the instruments.  Some of you already have an idea what you want to play.
This week, let's blog about that!
Are you planning on joining band?  If so, what instrument do you want to play?  Why did you pick that instrument?  If you are not joining band, why have you decided against it?
Remember, the class blog is not required; it is not part of your homework.  However, it is a great opportunity to "chat" with your classmates.

As you know, I teach piano.  I started playing the piano when I was in 4th grade.  What you may not know is that my second instrument was percussion.  I joined the band in 8th grade when a percussionist dropped out of band right before a concert.  The band director knew me.  He knew I played piano and could read music so he asked if I would fill in for the concert.  I did.  I continued playing percussion through high school and college!
All three of my children were in band. Jen played clarinet, Lauren played french horn and Stephen played percussion.  They all took piano lessons from me too!  And now each one owns their own piano!
