Happy Friday!
We finally were able to add a Friday song to our end of week! I have gone through 2 IPod Docks so far. This past weekend, my daughter stopped by and showed me how to play my IPhone right through the computer. The students danced and talked for the last few minutes of the week. A great new tradition has been started!
Math parents: What a confusion we had with this week's POW. I apologize. Typically I create our POWs myself; this one I took from a book. We have come to the conclusion that there were errors in the book. Both the students and I were confused, as I heard many of you at home were too. We had several conversations over the period of the week and agreed upon the following: I will grade the POWs focusing on the computations. Students will get points for correct work but no student will be penalized for not understanding the problem. Everyone left math feeling this was reasonable. Don't worry. Next week's will be one I create!
Homework for the weekend:
Reading: Daily Reading Log due Monday
Math: 30 minutes of IXL practice in preparation for Topic 2 test due Monday
Social Studies: Roanoke Blog due Tuesday
Thanks!
Enjoy the weekend. It is suppose to be beautiful out!

Good afternoon!
We had a great day today. Tuesdays are science days. Mrs. Grimm joins us for an hour in the morning. We have been studying variables. This is in preparation for the upcoming 5th grade science fair. Students need to have a clear understanding of the scientific process. Today we built airplanes and students had the opportunity to experiment with them for a bit. Next week will be the actual experiment.
Tuesdays is also our Frank Lloyd Wright day. The AT math students are participating in an architecture unit in cooperation with the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Fund. They are planning a house and creating a 3D scale model of their home. Today they began placing it on the graph paper. Next week, they begin building.
Homework:
Reading: Read 20 minutes each day. Fill our reading log.
Vocabulary: 12 important words worksheet due tomorrow.
Spelling test on Friday.
Math: Divisibility worksheet due tomorrow.
POW due Friday.
Social Studies: Atlas due Thursday.

What a day! Our time just flies by.
I had the opportunity to read one-on-one with several students today, resetting their reading levels and making goals for improvement. That is one of the highlights of my job...seeing the excitement in a child's eyes when they have moved up several levels and they can see and hear the difference in their reading.
In math, we are doing a bit of reorganizing. I was happy with today's lesson and hopeful that we are onto a good system.
Tomorrow if our field trip to Robert Crown Center. Students will eat lunch and have recess earlier than usual. We will leave Schiesher at noon and arrive back at approximately 2:30.
Today's homework:
Reading: Read 20 mintues daily
Literacy Packet due Friday
Math: Preview 2.3 due Thursday
Math 2.1 and 2.2 worksheet due Thursday

What an unusual week we have! First, we have two 4-day weeks in a row. Second, tomorrow I am out with some of my students while the rest are here merged with Mrs. Yaniz's class. However, they are always together for Language Arts and break up for various math teachers anyway, so that is really not too wierd. Finally, I am not in the class Thursday afternoon; we have a grade level meeting.
