The students should be working on their 5-paragraph essay for social studies. It is due tomorrow.
It is an opinion piece on why the 13 colonies were successful. Students may refer to the social studies blog, where we already discussed the importance of rules and strong leadership.

5 paragraph essay
In our blog, we discussed why rules are important and what
makes a good leader. Both rules and
strong leadership led to the successful colonization of America. What else do you think was necessary?
Write a 5 paragraph opinion essay. Write about 3 issues that were a part of the
success of the first 13 colonies. You
may use leadership and rules as two of your 3 ideas. However, you may also use your own
ideas. I would suggest you reread the
blogs to help substantiate your ideas about leadership and rules, should you
decide to use those.
Your essay must begin with an introductory paragraph. In
this paragraph, you must state your thesis as well as your main ideas. The next three paragraphs must each focus on
one of your ideas, with a minimum of 3 supporting statements or ideas. Be sure
to use information from your social studies text as support. Your final paragraph must restate your
thesis as well as your main ideas. This is the traditional format for a 5
paragraph essay.
Your final copy must be typed, double-spaced, in an easy to
read font with black ink only. Remember
to check for spelling, punctuation and capitalization. Use transition words within your paragraph as
well as to connect your ideas from one paragraph to another.
I have included a graphic organizer on the back side of this
paper. I strongly suggest you use it to organize your paper. If you prefer a different organizer, feel
free to substitute that one instead.
Your paper is due on Thursday, December 6, 2012.
I have not attached the organizer buthere is a link to the rubric
Chapter 6 test on Tuesday
For my social studies essay, can I write it in the point of veiw as a instructer. As meaning, ( here is part of my essay.):
ReplyDeleteHere are my top 4 rules:
1. Everybody will be equal.
2. No stealing.
3. Everybody will be able to practice their religious beliefs freely.
4. No physical fighting.
Of course, You don't have to use those rules. I am only one person. Your colony probably has 100 people. That also reminds me of saying something: make a compact, like the pilgrims did. They made the Mayflower Compact. A compact will help keep the laws in order. Well if you now have the laws set, now it is time to make sure colonists are getting along.
Make sure the colonists are
Is that okay to write it that way??? - Z.H.
That's an interesting question ZH. I will say that you can write it from any point of view you want as long as you answer the question "Why were the 13 colonies successful?" and follow the 5-paragraph format. Check the rubric because that is what I will use to grade it.
