  1. How do you do income/ expense on the POW?

  2. AD - good morning!
Anything you sell becomes income. After you determine how much profit you make (such as 3 bikes @ $100 each = $300), you list that in the income column and add that to your total.
If it is an expense, you compute how much money you spent (such as you bought 3 bikes @ $100 each = $300) and list that in the expense column and subtract it from your total.
It is very similar to a how we use a checkbook. The final column is a running total of how much money you still have - - based on how much money you have made or spent.

  3. Mrs. Sutton, do we have to do percent on every item we buy or sell? AG

  4. AG - do you mean on the POW? You only need to do a percentage of total gain or total loss.
Example: If I start with $400,000.00 and I earn an additional $4000.00 for an ending balance of $404,000.00, what is my percentage of profit.

  6. AD - are you working on the POW? Are you trying to find the percentage of gain or loss? Have you tried part/whole = % / 100?
So - if you have an increase (gain) of $4000, you would set up the equation to be $4000 (part) / $400,000.00 (whole) = x / 100 and cross multiply. so -
    $4000 * 100 = $400,000x
    solve
    400,000 = 400,000x
    1 = x
    a profit of 1%
    Does this help?

Or - were you working on ratios on Manga High? I just realized you said ratios...If so - that's OK. It's a 6th grade skill that we will do just a little bit with AFTER design my classroom is done. Remember - you don't get graded on your Manga High work. It's an opportunity to practice.

  7. Hi Mrs.Sutton! 2 questions:
    - Are we having school tomorrow?
    - I already did factors and multiples (mangahigh) does that count as one of my eight activities?

    1. ZH - I imagine that you have already heard that we do not have school tomorrow. Enjoy your extra day off! If you did factors and multiples a different week you can 1) opt to do it again for more practice or 2) choose a different activity - - whichever you prefer.

  8. Mrs Sutton, i accidentally* did my work on a sheet of notebook paper for the POW. Can I staple it onto the POW and get full credit? MU

    1. MU - that is fine as long as they are labeled (#1, #2, etc) and legible it is OK that they are not on the sheet I provided.

      Enjoy tomorrow.
